Susan Stamler is the Executive Director of United Neighborhood Houses (UNH), a policy and social change organization representing New York State’s settlement houses. Settlement houses are neighborhood-based organizations providing a lifetime of services from early childhood education and afterschool programs to adult literacy classes and senior centers.
At UNH Susan oversees the strategic direction, fundraising, and growth for the organization including lobbying at the City and State level for policy reforms, funding, and program designs; customizing professional development for settlement house staff at all levels; and mobilizing settlement houses and their communities to engage in civic participation.
Throughout her career, Susan has advanced social change through her work on juvenile justice reforms, protecting women’s health and reproductive rights, advocating for environmental and consumer protections, and by lobbying for policies and programs to support people living with HIV/AIDS.
Susan is a NYC native, growing up in Queens and for over 38 years lives in Brooklyn where she and her husband raised two daughters.
