Lynn Appelbaum

Deputy Executive Director

Lynn Appelbaum has been dedicated to strengthening settlement houses as a staff and Board member since 1994. Immediately before joining United Neighborhood Houses as the Deputy Executive Director, Lynn was an Executive Vice President at UNH member Educational Alliance. In this role, as well as her previous role as the Chief Program Officer, Lynn had overall responsibility for developing, overseeing, and enhancing high quality programs; cultivating and promoting inter- and intra-departmental program integration and external collaboration; and assessing and strengthening policies, operations, and organizational structure to ensure alignment with the organization’s mission.

Before joining Educational Alliance in the fall of 2006, Lynn was the Director of Policy at Family Justice, a national nonprofit that taps the strength of government, the expertise of families and the resources of communities to break cycles of involvement in the criminal justice system. Prior, Lynn worked for more than 10 years at UNH member agency Lenox Hill Neighborhood House. Promoted from within several times, Lynn served as the Deputy Executive Director for Programs and spearheaded the development of the organization’s five-year strategic plan.

Lynn also served on the Board of Directors of UNH member agency Mosholu Montefiore Community Center for more than a dozen years. Throughout her career, which began at Victim Services (now Safe Horizon), Lynn has been dedicated to working in partnership to help people develop the skills to enhance their lives and their communities.  A lifelong New Yorker, Lynn is proud to be the recipient of the Haverford College Alumni Award for Service to Humanity.
