Jennifer Weil has worked in the nonprofit sector for the past 20 years--10 in the settlement house network. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Family, Youth, and Community Sciences from University of Florida, she entered the Youth Development field as the Kids' Cafe Coordinator at the Capital Area Food Bank in Washington D.C. where she connected local youth programs to healthy food and food access programming to ensure they could meet the nutritional needs of their neighborhoods. In 2008, she moved to New York City and took on a direct service role as Afterschool Program Director at Queens Community House. There she gained hands-on programming experience at the neighborhood-level. In 2013, she took on a similar position at The Boys' Club of New York, where she coordinated all afterschool activities for 6-13 year old boys living in the Lower East Side. In 2017, after years of receiving positive feedback on her Communications-based work, she tried her hand in the Development and Communications field, returning to Queens Community House as Communications Coordinator--and soon after--Communications Director. During this transition period, she grew her experience in a number of areas, including social media management, public relations, graphic design, fundraising and special events, storytelling, website management, and more. In April 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, she took on the role of Director of External Relations at United Neighborhood Houses where she today draws from her years of experience in the nonprofit sector to convey UNH's deep neighborhood-strengthening work to a variety of stakeholders and promotes the resilience of the settlement house movement.
