Our Priorities

United Neighborhood Houses advocates for funding & policies that directly address barriers to thriving communities.

Our goal is to ensure that children and families, immigrants, and older people feel that their city represents them, and that they can play a role in shaping its growth.

  • Immigrants: As the federal government increasingly targets immigrants, UNH pushes for local solutions, creates opportunities, and stands up to protect people of all races.

  • Early Childhood: UNH works to ensure that families can afford high-quality early childhood education, and that teachers, staff, & directors in community-based ECE programs can provide their services.

  • Older Adults: The older adult population in New York is growing rapidly. That's why we help support a wide variety of services such as senior centers, meal and nutrition programs, home care agencies, more.

  • Youth Development: Today's youth are tomorrow's active and engaged New Yorkers—so UNH supports its members as they deliver a variety of youth development programs.

  • Literacy: When adults and children can access literacy services, they can succeed at school and work, communicate better with the people around them, and take a more active role in their communities.

  • Neighborhood Affordability: UNH strives for a world where New Yorkers have options when looking for affordable housing, and can find a full-time job that pays the bills.

  • Non-Profit Contracting: By working to improve the way settlement houses receive funds, we improve the way they can serve all of New York.
