Position: Managing Director, Afterschool Programs

Department: Afterschool

Reports to: Chief Program Officer

Hours: Monday – Friday, 10:00am – 7:00pm

FLSA: Full-Time – Exempt

Bronx House is a multi-site nonprofit organization serving the diverse population of the Northeast Bronx through a broad variety of programs for children and youth, adults and families, and older adults. Our mission is to provide individuals and families with the tools to enrich their lives and build healthy, inclusive communities. We are a modern interpretation of the traditional settlement house. We are seeking a qualified, experienced Managing Director with a strong commitment to youth development for our four Afterschool Programs. The Managing Director is a member of the agency’s leadership team. The Managing Director will work collaboratively with a team of Multi-Site Directors Afterschool Program Directors, School Staff, and stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervision, training, evaluation, and recruitment of Afterschool Directors and other program staff that aligns with our mission, vision, and best youth development practices.
  • Collaborate, build relationships, and advocate with key stakeholders (principals, parents, DYCD and ADVANTAGE staff, and funders).
  • Program monitoring and management of the day to day program operations and supervision including attendance, incidences, reporting, and evaluation and assessment.
  • Assurance of compliance, high quality, and high performing programs that meet contractual, regulatory, and agency evaluative measures and standards.
  • Meet with Program Directors regularly for program planning and development of activities.
  • Resolve conflicts and negotiate solutions as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred) in Education, Social Work, Child Development, Not for Profit management or related field.
  • Three to five or more years supervising staff as a Program Director of sizeable programs with increasingly levels of responsibility preferably in urban education and/or youth development.
  • Five (5) or more years work experience in the Youth Development Field.
  • NYS OCFS School Age Child Care (SACC) Director credentials preferred or requirement to secure and maintain SACC credential training and certification.
  • Working knowledge of public educational and afterschool programs/systems.
  • Knowledge of contractual, regulatory, funding, and budgetary requirements regarding, Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) COMPASS/SONYC programs, and NYS School Age Child Care (SACC) regulations and NYS OCFS Advantage Afterschool funding.
  • Excellent skills in the areas of communication (oral and written), interpersonal, cultural competency, sense of judgement, and decision making.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, supervision and follow-up skills.
