Riverdale Neighborhood House (RNH) is a 150-year old non-profit, providing services and resources to meet the needs of all of our neighbors in the northwest Bronx. Our programs include a pre-school (3K & 4K), after-school enrichment for K-12th grade, a robust teen internship program, summer and vacation camps, community classes, an older adult telephone reassurance program, and our new Food & Farm program with a teaching garden and mutual aid community fridge.


Under the supervision of the Buildings & Grounds Director, the Maintenance Worker Sub will be contacted to temporarily fill vacancies and/or needs of the maintenance team at RNH by performing a wide variety of custodial and maintenance duties in order to provide a clean, orderly and safe.


  • Perform and complete the daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedule:
  • Work in collaboration with the buildings and grounds team to ensure safety and cleanliness of all RNH property including day-to-day cleaning, maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of grounds including snow removal and landscape maintenance as well as long-term projects and planning.
  • Collects and bag all garbage from all facilities offices, classrooms, common areas and grounds and recycling procedure as necessary
  • Cleaning of bathrooms, office, classrooms, and all spaces utilized on a daily basis. Including sanitizing and disinfecting bathrooms fixtures, doorknobs, and stair handles.
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum all floors and stairwells; clean and shampoo carpets as needed and maintain clean baseboard.
  • Refills paper towel, toilet paper and hand soap in all dispensers.
  • Maintain clean and safe playground areas
  • Set up and take down chairs and tables for meetings, events and classrooms as needed.
  • Light repairs should be done as needed or upon request including light construction painting, light fixtures, unclogging sinks, and toilets.
  • Receive and distribute deliveries when needed.
  • Support ongoing compliance with facility related regulations, policies, and procedures, including but not limited to those related to OSHA, DOHMH, DOE, FDNY, and DOB guidelines.
  • Attends and participates in team meetings and training opportunities as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Buildings & grounds, COO and Executive Director


  • Successful Background check and State Central Registry clearances required
  • Basic knowledge of proper sanitation and use of hand tools.
  • Able to perform physical activities including climbing stairs/ladders, snow removal, moving and lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for a prolonged period of time.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a management and facilities team.


  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimally two years of experience working in the facility/building maintenance capacity.


  • On call as needed and can include weekdays, weekends, day and night.
  • Frequent traveling around the RNH campus, local vendors as required.
  • Regular lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as tables, chairs, equipment and boxes.
  • Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination

WORK AUTHORIZATION - United States (Required)


  • $17 per hour and scheduled as needed including weekdays, weekends, morning, and nights.
