JOB TITLE: Junior Accountant

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

DEPARTMENT: Finance REPORTS TO: Director of Finance

The Junior Accountant reports to the Director of Finance and provides support for the department functions with specific responsibility for performing activities related to the accurate processing of payroll and accounts payable on a timely basis and in accordance with the company policy and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data.
  • Updates payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job title and department/division transfers.
  • Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.
  • Determines payroll liabilities by calculating employee garnishments, loans, child support, pretax benefits and pension.
  • Resolves payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  • Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Reconcile the New York Department of Labor Statistical report.
  • Perform all aspects of the accounts payable function by matching purchase orders to invoices, evidence of receipt of good or services and entering/reviewing the invoices into “Fund EZ” the accounting system. Identify errors or discrepancies and resolve before processing. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Answer inquiries from employees and outside vendors regarding accounts payable
  • and related matters and in a timely manner.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and assist in with year-end audits on a as needed basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate/Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting a plus and at least two years of work experience in a financial setting.

Good knowledge of bookkeeping concepts and procedures through general ledger. Demonstrated analytical skills, detail orientated and problem-solving ability. Able to prioritize and work under deadlines. Knowledge of ADP Payroll and accounting software such as Fund EZ, Microsoft Word and Excel are a plus.

SALARY RANGE: 55k to 60K

When applicable for the job, “SCS currently has a hybrid work model with three days in office and two days remote.”
