UNH seeks a Data & Technology Consultant focused on nonpartisan voter outreach to be an integral part of our Policy and Advocacy team during a crucial election year in New York City.

Position Description:

The GOTV Data & Technology Consultant is a part-time, temporary position at UNH. The purpose of this position is to support UNH and its member organizations in using the Voter Activation Network (VAN) and other voter contact tools to measure the impact of community-based voter outreach activities in the 2021 election season. This position will work directly with UNH members to establish and maintain best practices and standards for collecting, tracking, and analyzing voter data collected through settlement house GOTV efforts. The overarching goal of the Data & Technology Consultant is to demonstrate the impact of UNH’s 2021 Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV) project. UNH also seeks to inspire greater participation by settlement houses and staff in GOTV efforts and to inform future plans for evaluation and analysis.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Advise UNH and its member settlement houses on the use of voter contact tools and assist them in integrating appropriate voter contact and data tools into their engagement programs.
  • Administer voter file system for UNH; this includes managing user and security settings; providing technical assistance; and monitoring use of the system to ensure compliance with state and national policies.
  • Work with UNH and its members to establish and maintain best practices and standards for data collection, data acquisition, and preservation.
  • Coordinate with UNH staff on data collection needed to track and support citywide civic engagement activity in the election season.
  • Work with UNH member organizations to ensure voter contact programs are maximizing shared resources, including voter file access, targeting models, and other data resources.

Deliverables Include:

  • Advising on a public report/brief on the findings of UNH’s 2021 Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV) project.
  • Producing recommendations for a recurring and sustainable structure for settlement houses to use data and evaluation of their GOTV efforts in the future.
  • Identifying data-driven protocols and presentation toolkits for settlement house and UNH future use.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience using, training on, and administering VAN for at least one year.
  • Proven ability to train non-technical audiences on use of software tools.
  • Public speaking or teaching, especially explaining the use of technology and data to non-technical people.
  • Familiarity with running webinars or online training/presenting a plus.
  • Familiarity with BallotReady, Action Network, GetThru/Hustle, and/or Reach is a plus.
  • Diplomatic, professional approach to problem-solving while working independently or on a team.
  • Strong organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage several tasks and projects concurrently and prioritize work effectively.
  • Comfortable working in a diverse community with people who have diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Please note this is a temporary and contracted position through Spring 2022, working an average of 10 hours per week, though this may fluctuate throughout the duration of the project. The position will be remote through at least September 2021, with the possibility of remaining remote for the entire duration of the project.
