Position Overview: Adult and Immigrant Services offers English language classes to immigrant community members, assists in providing resources and benefits to those in vulnerable community members, provides free legal immigration consultations, engages with community members on public health initiatives and advocates alongside and on behalf of immigrants and low-income adults.

In January 2020, SCS formed a community engagement team to educate community members on the 2020 Census. Later, we joined the Covid-Free Queens! Coalition to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and to provide vaccine education. Our approach is to inform community members on COVID-19 prevention and COVID-19 vaccines and to develop strategies for broader community engagement on public health-related and other civic issues.

The Community Organizer will be responsible for COVID-19 outreach program implementation, which includes engaging community members by providing Covid-19-related literature and distribute PPE and rapid testing kits. Additionally, the Community Organizer will facilitate info-sessions on Covid-19-related topics for targeted groups such as ESOL students, caregivers, home health aides, and parents in school-based programs. The Community Organizer will also lead development of community organizing and engagement strategies alongside the Director of Adult and Immigrant Services. The Community Organizer will be supported by a full-time outreach assistant, interns, and volunteers.

Position Responsibilities: Planning and Implementation

Working under the leadership of the Director of Adult and Immigrant Services, the Community Organizer will:

• Execute comprehensive outreach plan to ensure that outreach-related outcomes are being met.

• Supervise a team of one full-time outreach assistants and interns and volunteers including hosting weekly debriefs.

• Engage community members through a variety of activities including canvassing/tabling, phone-banking/text-banking, and info-sessions.

• Establish and maintain relationships with SCS stakeholders by phone, through email, or other text-based community formats.

• Participate in trainings and professional development opportunities.

• Develop and maintain contact with coalition members and partner organizations

Data Collection, Tracking and Reporting

• Maintain a comprehensive tracking log for each activity in organization database.

• Enter and analyze weekly data on Salesforce to track performance and effectiveness.

• Work closely with team to provide data-informed recommendations to improve programming.

• Adhere to all data security and privacy protocols

Qualifications:

• Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred • Bachelor’s degree in community organizing or related field; 2-3 years community organizing, community engagement, campaign-building, or outreach experience • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Web-Based Office Suite.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication. • Flexibility, patience, resourcefulness, and a willingness to learn and ability to work independently and creatively.
