ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

Riverdale Neighborhood House (RNH) is a 150-year-old non-profit, providing services and resources to meet the needs of all of our neighbors in the northwest Bronx. Our mission is to strengthen our community in the Northwest Bronx by delivering programs and ensuring access to resources that build bonds, create networks, and promote equity across generational, cultural, racial, and economic lines. Our programs include a pre-school (3K & 4K), after-school enrichment for K-12th grade, a robust teen internship program, summer and vacation camps, community classes, and an older adult telephone reassurance program. In 2021, RNH created the Food & Farm program, made up of an educational garden, community fridge, farmstand, teaching kitchen and monthly food pantry. The program is focused on building food sovereignty and promoting food and environmental justice in the local community.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

RNH is seeking a dedicated project manager and community organizer to join the organization as the new Community and Volunteer Program Manager. This position is responsible for overseeing a growing set of social justice initiatives at RNH with a focus on food and environmental justice, including managing the community fridge and pantry program, supervising the Food Justice teen internship, overseeing the garden education program, and developing outreach events to engage the community. The Program Manager will collaborate with other departments and external partners to develop intergenerational programs that have high educational and community impact. The Community and Volunteer Program Manager will also expand the volunteer program for the organization, including creating a volunteer management system, as well as developing volunteer opportunities and events that have meaningful impact in the community. The Community and Program Manager will manage the Garden Coordinator, as well as seasonal employees, volunteers, and interns. This position requires strong organizational skills, an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, a passion for education, and an enthusiasm for collaboration. This is a Tuesday through Saturday, full time position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Food and Environmental Justice Program

  • Maintain and grow the food and environmental justice programming at RNH through collaborations with other departments, as well as external stakeholders, partners, and community members.
  • Manage the Garden Coordinator, who oversees the Market and Garden programming providing coaching, mentorship, and direction as needed.
  • Manage The Neighborhood Fridge, including developing partnerships with local restaurants and organizations, coordinating volunteers, overseeing budget and tracking, and developing and maintaining communications.
  • Oversee and co-lead the summer Food & Environmental Justice teen internship program, including staffing, budgeting, curriculum development, and facilitation.
  • Develop and facilitate food justice curriculum and workshops for all age groups.
  • Maintain and grow food pantry programming, including managing partnerships, budgeting, and community outreach.
  • Assist in grant writing, management, and reporting Volunteer Management
  • Oversee organization-wide volunteer network, including managing recruitment, screening, placement, training, evaluation, and recognition of volunteers.
  • Maintain volunteer CRM database.
  • Collaborate with program departments to create and manage volunteer opportunities on site, including both one-time events and long-term committed volunteer programs.
  • Create and lead regular volunteer events that are accessible to participants of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
  • Maintain and grow volunteer base through community outreach and partnerships with external organizations and stakeholders.
  • Manage regular communications with volunteers through emails, newsletters, and recognition events.
  • Assist in grant writing and reporting.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Self-starter, able to work independently and manage several projects at once, creative thinker.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience of working in a non-profit or similar field
  • Comfort in working with all age groups, including young children, teens, and older adults.
  • Experience in mutual aid, gardening, and food justice
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (verbal and written) and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to work productively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Experience with maintaining databases and/or CRM preferred.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather (rain, heat, snow)
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Ability to work Tuesday through Saturday
  • Proficiency in Spanish preferred
  • Sense of humor and ability to work in a changing environment.
  • Proficiency in Google Workplace (particularly Docs & Sheets)
  • Experience working with graphic design and communication platforms preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Successful Background Check and State Central Registry clearances required.
  • Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination required.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Tuesday - Saturday

SALARY RANGE:

  • $55,000-$65,000, commensurate with experience
