Annual Salary: $40,000-$45,000


Program Hours: Monday – Friday 2PM – 9PM Saturday 10AM – 4PM

Administrative hours vary based on a 35-hour work week schedule.

Position Overview

Sunnyside Community Services (SCS) is seeking an Assistant Director for the campus at 343, located in Elmhurst, Queens. This campus houses a range of educational and recreational services for youth and adults in the community, Monday through Saturday. The Assistant Director will, among other duties, work with youth workers on day-to-day services, as well as supervise the site in the absence of the Campus Director.

Position Responsibilities

  • Evening and Saturday Supervisor, as well as lead for outreach needs.
  • Assist the Campus Director in building and maintaining relationships with designated stakeholders to ensure that our program is aligned with school and community goals/ initiatives.
  • Conduct wellness rounds to observe programming in action to ensure program quality and safety.
  • Assist in resolving conflicts between stakeholders as they arise, including between staff and students, students and students, and staff and staff.
  • Work with program leadership to identify or develop curriculum, consultants and/or subcontractors.
  • Work with program leadership to provide training on lesson plans, compliance and safety, behavior and classroom management, and other topics as needed for direct service staff.
  • Assist Campus Director with meeting and overseeing contractual requirements that include record keeping, data entry, and reporting.
  • Assist the Campus Director with hiring, onboarding, and retention of direct service staff including background checks and staff clearances through the DOH/MH (Department of Health and Mental Hygiene), OCFS (Office of Children and Family Services) (Office of Children and Family Services) and DOE (Department of Education) clearances.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining systems of documentation and data keeping the site in compliance both in person and digitally.
  • Attend all required meetings and training courses.
  • Act as Site Supervisor in the absence of the Campus Director.
  • Fill in for gaps in the program as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, at least 18 credits in education (youth centered classes) required.
  • Experience in community-based services required, Beacon or Cornerstone experience preferred.
  • Experience managing entry level onboarding, retention, and background clearances required.
  • At least two years of supervisory experience required, preferably in an after-school setting.
  • • At least two years’ experience with planning lessons and leading activities required.
  • Ability to thrive under high stress situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communications skills
  • Computer literate with extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, G-Suite, Canva, Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) Connect and Salesforce.
  • Ability to organize, manage and evaluate multiple activities and project management.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment as a participant and leader.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends Bilingual Spanish, preferred
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with program stakeholders including but not limited to staff, clients, volunteers, and other community/government agencies.
  • Ability to work both in person and on occasion remotely, required.
