Riverdale Neighborhood House (RNH) is a 150-year old non-profit, providing services and resources to meet the needs of all of our neighbors in the northwest Bronx. Our programs include a pre-school (3K & 4K), after-school enrichment for K-12th grade, a robust teen internship program, summer and vacation camps, community classes, an older adult telephone reassurance program, and our new Food & Farm program with a teaching garden and mutual aid community fridge.


Responsible for the overall management, upkeep, repair, safety and cleanliness of RNH’s campus including all buildings and grounds as well as the supervision and coordination of the maintenance team. Position reports to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and is part of the management team.


  • Ensure the safety and cleanliness of all RNH property including day-to-day cleaning, maintenance, repairs and upkeep of grounds including snow removal and landscape maintenance as well as long-term projects and planning.
  • Perform minor plumbing, electrical, painting, and other building and grounds maintenance tasks as appropriate to skills.
  • Collaborate with Chief Operating Officer (COO) and site leads to ensure that maintenance staffing levels are appropriate, and that all maintenance and repair issues are addressed.
  • Serve as primary contact to RNH’s leadership team and outside contractors involved in cleaning, maintenance, repairs, and renovations at RNH’s property.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with facility related regulations, policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to OSHA, DOHMH, DOE, FDNY, and DOB guidelines.
  • Instruct maintenance team on maintenance best practice, policies, procedures, use of maintenance equipment and on-going skills development.
  • Mange Inventory to ensure that supplies and equipment are available in adequate amounts.
  • Partner on solutions with Leadership to improve service and increase operational efficiency.
  • Make sure that the facility is open for participants according to the schedule, making sure maintenance team members arrive at least one hour before participants and guests are expected.
  • Be courteous and friendly with all guests and staff of RNH.
  • Ensure that the buildings and grounds are properly closed and secure at the end of the day. Items to verify include but not limited to RNH campus access points, equipment, any running water and so forth.
  • Partner on security solutions with COO and leadership team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by COO and Executive Director


  • Strong leadership, staff management and project management abilities.
  • Deep knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical and other building systems.
  • Ability to undertake minor plumbing, electrical and other building maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Written and strong oral communications skills.
  • English/Spanish bilingual preferred
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a management and facilities team.
  • Experience using in Word, Excel and emails.
  • Must obtain S-95 and W-07/F-07 certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Must clear a background check and be fully COVID-19 vaccinated.


  • Some college preferred but will consider applicants with a high school diploma / HSE and at least 5 years of demonstrated facilities and maintenance with at least three years of supervisory experience.


  • 40-hour on-site work week with on-call availability (including weekends).
  • Frequent traveling around the RNH campus and to local vendors as required.
  • Frequent physical repair work
  • Regular lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as tables, chairs, equipment and boxes.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and other computer components.
