Hamilton-Madison House (HMH) is dedicated to improving the quality of life for residents in the Two Bridges/Chinatown area on Manhattan's Lower East Side. Hamilton-Madison House offers a variety of human service social programs. Each week, Hamilton-Madison House provides services to 1,700 people of all ages and to more than 10,000 people annually.
What We Do
For Children
UNH aims to expand the availability of quality, affordable child care, Pre-Kindergarten, Head Start, after school and summer enrichment programs in which parents are actively engaged. We do this through advocacy and policy analysis as well as by providing resources to our member agencies for program innovation and enhancement. Learn more »

UNH advocates for critical educational and enrichment opportunities that help young people make positive choices and succeed in school and in the workforce. Adult Literacy and Immigrant Services
UNH is leading the effort to establish a comprehensive adult literacy system through our work with the New York Coalition for Adult Literacy (NYCAL), which asserts that being able to read and write, learn English, obtain a GED, and enter training and post secondary education are the rights of every New Yorker and the cornerstone to an equitable and just society. Older Adults
The first of 77 million baby boomers turned 60 in 2006. By 2030, 108 million Americans will be over age 55, up from 60 million today. Will our communities be ready for this age-wave? Housing Stability
UNH strengthens communities in public housing and advocates for programs to prevent homelessness. Learn more »
Healthy Food
United Neighborhood Houses' member agencies provide nearly 1.8 million meals to 8,000 individuals each year. UNH is working with its members to help them use more fresh healthy food in preparing these meals. UNH and its member agencies are also increasingly involved in activities to bring fresh food to families through urban gardens and farmer's markets. Learn more »
Strengthening Settlement Houses
To build the capacity of UNH members, UNH works with Executive Directors, Board leadership, and staff at all levels to provide a wide variety of technical assistance, peer support and program enhancement opportunities as well as professional development for settlement house staff. Learn more »
