Environmental Programs

The After School Conservation Club (ASCC), a partnership between UNH, The After School Corporation (TASC) and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), provides environmental education and activities to children in after school programs. Students participate in activities that teach them about conservation and carry-out hands-on neighborhood projects. Curriculum topics include adaptation, recycling, human impacts, aquatic life and stewardship ethics. Current neighborhood projects include maintaining butterfly gardens and creating recycling programs.

Five UNH member agencies andare participating in this innovative program in 2008:

  • Mosholu Montefiore Community Center

  • Queens Community House

  • Riverdale Neighborhood House, which is operating two ASCC sites

  • University Settlement Society

TASC sites include:

  • PS 254 (Bronx)

  • Community Partnership Carter School (Brooklyn)

  • PS 279 (Bronx)

  • LeAp After School at PS 163 (Manhattan)

  • PS 96 (Bronx)

  • PS 198/77 (Manhattan)

  • PS 96 (Bronx)

  • PS 154 (Queens)

  • YMCA at PS 139 (Queens)
