CAMBA is a non-profit agency that provides services which connect people with opportunities to enhance their quality of life. CAMBA's work has gained international attention for success in designing programs and delivering services to people from a wide range of cultures and ethnic groups.
Homelessness Prevention and Anti-Eviction Services
UNH member agencies combat homelessness in New York City by helping homeless New Yorkers transition to employment and permanent housing reducing the need for more costly shelter placements. Settlement house programs also help families maintain their current permanent housing, by avoiding eviction or other preventable emergencies. UNH fights an ongoing battle to maintain funding for these programs:
- Homeless Prevention Program
- Homelessness Intervention Program
- Anti-Eviction Services
- Single Room Occupancy Legal Support Services
- Emergency Shelter
- Supportive Housing (for those with mental illness or other special needs)
New York City Coalition on the Continuum of Care
UNH is a member of the Steering Committee of the New York City Coalition on the Continuum of Care. The Coalition is comprised of government agencies, including the New York City Department of Homeless Services, community-based organizations and service consumers and is charged with developing criteria for evaluation of proposals for federally funded homeless services under the McKinney Vento Act. Through this committee, UNH emphasizes the importance of comprehensive services that prevent homelessness and that help homeless and formerly homeless individuals find permanent housing.
