The mission of Jacob A. Riis Settlement House is to build and strengthen the underserved communities of Western Queens and act as a catalyst for change. Riis Settlement is a community-based non-profit organization that offers comprehensive services to the youth, adults, seniors, and families of Queensbridge, Ravenswood and the surrounding neighborhoods.

Founded as the Amsterdam Community Center in 1948, the name was changed to Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center in 1956. Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center (LSNC) provides services to people of all ages on the mid-West Side of Manhattan. The settlement runs two child care centers and co-sponsors an alternative high school with the NYC Board of Education, in addition to: a remedial reading and tutorial program for school age children, lunch and social programs for seniors, family programs and other community services. Young people in the neighborhood can take advantage of Lincoln Square's Fresh Air Fund camp registration, summer day care, the evening youth projects, college guidance and referral, counseling projects and cultural programs.
