Grand St. Settlement opened our doors in 1916, inviting New Yorkers to bring their diverse backgrounds, life experiences, resources and needs together to build a new kind of community. The settlement house model was something special when it first appeared in New York City; for the first time, neighbors were invited to not just give or receive, but to work together to build a community that enriched everyone’s lives. For 100 years, the agency has provided human services for community members of all ages. Today, the invitation to join Grand St. Settlement remains the same, but now we serve more than 7,400 New Yorkers on both sides of the Williamsburg Bridge, including Bushwick, Williamsburg, East New York, Brownsville, Bed-Stuy and beyond.
