The Center @ Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, one of the City’s Innovative Senior Centers, provides an incredible array of expansive programming that attracts hundreds of seniors from diverse backgrounds and abilities (from the very active to the very frail) 365 days a year while providing a broad range of invaluable public health, case management, fitness and aquatics, health and wellness, arts and culture, education and socialization activities. We are now seeking a Senior Center Social Worker to provide comprehensive social services/case management at the Center @ Lenox Hill Neighborhood House. This is a wonderful opportunity for a licensed social worker to join one of New York’s premier non-profit organizations and help older adults age in place in the community.

Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, widely recognized as one of New York’s premier human services providers, is a 123-year-old settlement house that provides an extensive array of effective and integrated services—social, educational, legal, health, housing, mental health, nutritional and fitness—which significantly improve the lives of thousands of people in need each year, ages 3 to 103, on the East Side of Manhattan. Our constituents include older adults, homeless and formerly homeless adults, children and families, recent immigrants, disabled persons, adult learners and thousands more. The Senior Center Social Worker will be a key team member at the Center @ Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, joining other programmatic and administrative staff, and numerous volunteers who serve our members each day.


RESPONSIBILITIES:  Reporting to the Assistant Director, Social Services, the Senior Center Social Worker will:
  • Provide social services/case management to older adults on issues relating to health benefits (e.g., Medicaid, Medicare), government benefits (e.g., SNAP, HEAP, Access-A- Ride, Lifeline, Epic, etc.), housing and economic supports (e.g., eviction prevention, affordable senior housing applications, SCRIE, etc.);
  • Conduct  initial Senior Center member intakes and mental health assessments;
  • Lead clinical discussion groups, educational workshops and support groups;
  • Help address member complaints, emergency situations and resolve Center conflicts in an appropriate and professional manner;
  • Help administer day-to-day operations of the Center @ Lenox Hill Neighborhood House and ensure they are conducted in accordance with our high performance standards and government regulations;
  • Work collaboratively with Neighborhood House staff from a variety of departments and disciplines as well as staff from other local senior service providers in the community.


QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate for the role of Senior Center Social Worker thrives in highly social community settings and is committed to working with older adults to improve their quality of life. The person should possess the interpersonal skills to work effectively with many diverse backgrounds. S/he will be compassionate, energetic, organized and self-motivated, and also be creative and thoughtful in the coordination and creation of Social Services programming for older adults. Experience working with older adults, our healthcare and/or benefits system a plus. The Senior Center Social Worker must be willing and able to work a non-traditional, full time schedule that will include weekends. LMSW preferred; BSW considered.
