BronxWorks seeks a Program Specialist for its East Concourse Neighborhood Senior Center. Candidates must have a high school diploma. Associates or Bachelor’s degrees are a plus. Applicants that have experience working with the senior citizen population are preferred. Applicants that are bilingual in English/Spanish are preferred. Duties consist of scheduling and conducting group activities, going on group trips, decorating the senior center for the holidays, running the center advisory and other committees, preparing the monthly calendar of events, flyers for events as well as assist in the day to day operation the senior center.   • Organize and conduct group and class activities.
  • Organize special programs such as: Birthday parties, 4th of July, St. Patrick’s Day, Mothers and Father’s day, Harvest, Thanksgiving, Easter and other special occasions as required by the Center Director.
  • Organize an annual health fair, and other workshops.
  • Prepare special programs for the celebration of cultural activities such as: Black History month, Puerto Rican and Dominican day as well as any other ethnic groups represented in the center. Prepare monthly calendar of activities.
  • With the assistance of the director and advisory council board, coordinate short and long distance trips.
  • Prepare bulletin boards to reflect monthly calendar of activities.
  • Maintain an accurate activities log.
  • Register members and update member files annually.
  • Report all problems to director.
  • Perform other duties as instructed by program director.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by manager.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent credentials required.
  • A minimum of 1 – 2 years of experience with planning and carrying out recreational activities.
  • Strong oral and written communication, time management and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology is required.
  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to climb five flights of stairs, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork.
  • Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
  • Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
  • Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or field work.
  • Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required. Authorization to work in the United States for any employer is mandatory.
