PROGRAM OVERVIEW: Education and Employment Services is an 8.2 million dollar division serving about 9000 people each year through a continuum of services from Early Childhood Education through Adult Workforce programs designed to assist individuals in obtaining the skills necessary for lifetime self-sufficiency. Education Services include an Early Learn Program, After School Programs (6 sites), 4 Day Camps, Youth Recreation, High School Initiatives including 2 Community Schools, and our Expanded Horizons College Success Program. Programming takes place within 3 community center sites and multiple school-based programs. Employment Services include walk-in employment services, employment services for a public housing population, ESL job readiness training, and employment services for youth including SYEP and Young Adult Internship and Adult Literacy Programs. This position is within our High School & College Success department, reporting to the Director of High School & College Success, and is responsible for co-facilitating, assisting, and supporting the Expanded Horizons College Success Program.


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  • Must have a minimum of two years of experience working with high school students/adolescents.
  • Experience providing educational instruction/group workshop facilitation to high school students from a strengths-based, youth development perspective.
  • Interest in co-facilitating/supporting an early college access/awareness, critical thinking, social justice, social emotional learning curriculum.
  • Ability to creatively engage youth through exploratory and hands-on curriculum.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to participate in team-oriented work.
  • Familiarity with New York State educational guidelines; knowledge of New York City and the Lower East Side preferred.
  • Computer literate, including experience with Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and the Internet.


  • Co-facilitate, assist, and support the Expanded Horizons College Success Programming Mondays-Thursdays 3-7 p.m. throughout the academic year.
  • Collaborate with staff and college counselors to ensure that students are engaged in programming, and that academic and behavioral challenges are identified and appropriate support and resources for those students are utilized/implemented.
  • Manage Volunteer Tutor recruitment and implementation of tutoring program.
  • Adhere to the evaluation requirements of the program, including communicating with staff to conduct pre- and post-tests.
  • Support the mission of exploratory learning
  • Maintain appropriate communication with students and staff members.
  • Track student performance, improvement, and attendance.
  • Chaperone day, evening, weekend and/or overnight field trips as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
