OUTREACH WORKER – Navigator

Job Description

BronxWorks is hiring an Outreach Worker in the Homeless Prevention and Access to Benefits Department who may also provide Navigator services to the public.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate outreach and in-reach to attract clients and meet demanding enrollment targets
  • Provide workshops and one-on-one counseling to educate the public about health insurance matters.
  • Perform health insurance advocacy, and enroll clients in health insurance programs they are deemed eligible for by the New York Health Benefits Exchange.
  • Develop relevant program specific informational material for distribution in the community.
  • Conduct workshops and presentations to targeted audiences.
  • Act as a link between target populations and BronxWorks program staff.
  • Monitor outreach progress and submit monthly internal progress reports to the Program Director.
  • The position may require a work schedule inclusive of evenings and weekends.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by manager.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • An associate’s degree in a related field of study is required.
  • A minimum of one or more years of health related field and outreach experience.
  • Candidate must pass the Certified Navigator Exam issued by the NYS of Health.
  • Proficiency in English required. Proficiency in a second language preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication, time management and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology is required.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to climb five flights of stairs, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork.
  • Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
  • Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
  • Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or field work.
