Job Description

Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation has an opening for one (1) Part-Time Instructor to teach ALL SUBJECTS in the Youth LEAD (HSE) Program in the Career and Education Programs Division.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Design relevant units in core subject areas of instruction to improve students’ skills needed to pass the TASC exam.

Ensure that instructional activities are clearly related to academic goals and learning objectives for skill development, and are documented in lesson plans, which are to be submitted weekly

Provide targeted whole group, small group, and/or individual instruction to students in order to help them develop skills needed to successfully pass the TASC exam

Conduct educational assessments (traditional and performance-based), submit progress reports

Provide regular and prompt feedback to students regarding their academic progress, and manage the development of students’ academic portfolios as a reflection of their progress

Establish and maintain an organized and supportive classroom environment where students actively participate and show respect for teacher and one another

Confer with youth advocates regarding any student/classroom issues

Adapt educational processes and procedures to enhance students’ educational outcomes

Attend all program staff meetings and participate in agency sponsored staff development activities.

Demonstrates commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change.

Perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 

Demonstrated ability to work with struggling learners, and motivate/encourage them to persist towards their goals.

Candidates must possess strong mathematics content knowledge.

Experience facilitating youth development workshops preferred.

Experience with flipped classroom instructional model preferred.

BS Degree in Education or related subject area preferred.

Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Must clear DOE and DOH fingerprinting and background authorizations before they can work.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position works in a school setting during the workday. This role routinely uses standard equipment such as computers, walkie-talkies, cellphones, photocopiers, and standard equipment such as safety scissors and tape dispensers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

TRAVEL:  No travel is expected for this position.

SUPERVISION:  Reports directly to Maribel Colome, Sr. Director of Adult Education.

Salary Information

We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a pleasant working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and commensurate with experience.

• $30.00 per hour, not to exceed 29 hours in any week, Monday - Friday between the hours of 6:00pm and 9:00 pm.
• All part-time employees are eligible to participate in the agency’s 403b Tax Deferred Retirement Investment Plan.
• In addition, all part-time employees are eligible to participate in the agency’s Commuter Flexible Spending Plan.
• CHLDC also follows the New York City Earned Sick Time Act.
