Job Description

OVERVIEW: Since 1886, University Settlement has been providing a variety of effective and strengths-based community based programs for children. Currently, the Settlement operates after-school programs for elementary and middle school children at several sites in Brooklyn and Manhattan. These programs provide academic support; artistic, cultural, and athletic enrichment; therapeutic services; and opportunities for family involvement.

 

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for the physical maintenance and overall cleanliness of the interior and the exterior grounds of the program facility.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Clean classrooms and set up and dismantle chairs, tables and equipment in rooms, based on program needs and according to daily schedule

·        Uses brooms, mops, and floor equipment to sweep, mop, strip and wax floors

·        Clean offices and restrooms daily; replenish restroom supplies.

·        Clean hard to reach places monthly

·        Follow bi-weekly schedule of cleaning refrigerator

·        Maintain cleaning supplies and keep running inventory

·        Inform supervisor of needed supplies on timely basis

·        Report any repairs needed to supervisor on timely basis

·        Empty trash receptacles, and ensure all garbage is taken out at the end of respective shift

·        Follow recycling schedule and put out cardboard boxes and bottles for pick-up

·        Clears snow from entrances and walkways as needed

·        Maintain good working relationship with supervisor and co-workers.

·        Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

 

QUALIFICATIONS

·        High School diploma or HSE required

·        Must have good communication skills and be able to read and write in English

·        Must be reliable and punctual
