Job Description

Medium-sized nonprofit multi-service organization/community center in southern Brooklyn seeks an experienced professional with command of non-profit accounting for the position of Director of Finance and Administration. Summary The Director of Finance and Administration provides direction on all financial management, reporting and control systems, accounting practices, and administrative functions. This position will report directly to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities: 
    • Oversees and directs all financial management and accounting activities including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, audit, cash management, planning and monitoring, and month-end closing schedules. 
    • Formulates, recommends and implements sound fiscal policies, procedures and controls. 
    • Direct supervision of 4 -6 staff in the accounting department. 
    • Maintains effective communication of financial position with the Board of Directors and acts as staff liaison to the Finance and Audit Committees of the organization. 
    • Analyzes the organization’s financial position and issues financial reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors including operating results, cash flow projections, and capital plans. 
    • Works closely with program directors to ensure that fiscal requirements for grants and contracts are identified, realized and monitored. 
    • Works closely with program directors to develop annual budget and provides regular reporting to program staff, executive director and board during the year to review actual to budget experience. 
    • Manages the organization’s technology needs and liaises with outsourced IT consultants. 
    • Manages Human Resources functions, including but not limited to: performance assessments, professional development, hiring and termination, and benefits administration. 
    • Clearly communicates duties and responsibilities and monitors the work performance of assigned personnel.

Qualifications: 
    • Experience in the management and reporting on multiple government and foundation contracts and grants preferred. 
    • Expertise in Microsoft Office, computerized fund accounting software (knowledge of Sage Fund Accounting a plus) and membership database/program registration software preferred. 
    • Excellent written and oral communication, organizational, and presentation skills required. 
    • An ability to use diplomacy and respect confidentiality in sensitive situations will be expected. 
    • Seeking a candidate with at least a Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or a related field and minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, including 2 years in a supervisory capacity. 
    • Experience in managing/overseeing Human Resources is a plus. 
    • Successful candidate will be someone who is able and ready to work with a diverse team of staff and volunteers in a fast paced environment.
