DIRECTOR OF EARLY HEAD

Job Description

Within policy guidelines established by the Board of Directors, the terms of the Purchase of Service Agreement, licensing requirements, and any requirements set forth in labor agreements to which the Board may be a party, the director is responsible for overall administration and supervision of the total program of Early Head Start support services to providers and, ultimately, to families and children. These responsibilities shall include coordination and oversight of all program components, such as intellectual growth of young children, preventive health and social services, nutrition, staff development, community outreach, provider, and parental involvement in program operation, fiscal management and accountability, and  office and facilities management. To effectively carry out these overall responsibilities,  the director  shall  consider,  confer  and  consult  with  the  Executive  Director and senior managerial staff members of the center in arriving at decisions affecting areas in which these persons may be specialists or  have  responsibilities.  Must  meet funder’s  deadlines  on  a  timely  basis  and   prepare   plans for program success that are submitted to  the Executive Director and the Board on a timely basis.

 

Experience, Education and Skills Required: Possess at the minimum a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or Education with the willingness to agree to a study plan in Early Education at the graduate level from an accredited college or university; have a strong history of program design, supervision, collaborative partnerships, working with infants/toddlers, and community engagement. The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s degree in Early Education or related major, and, be grounded in community based work. He or she should be sensitive to issues of diversity and committed to the empowerment of underserved communities. An ability to be creative in problem-solving, working well under pressure, and engaging with all stakeholders is a must. Strong verbal and written communication skills a must. Bilingual English/Spanish is desirable.
