Job Description

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW: 
Goddard Riverside Community Center (GRCC), one of New York City’s leading community based organizations, seeks a highly qualified Controller to oversee all aspects of its financial operations.  GRCC currently operates 27 distinct programs at 21 sites on the Upper West Side and Harlem. The primary program areas include early childhood education, children and youth, colleges access, homeless outreach, mental health, housing, older adults, legal services, advocacy and community arts. The current budget is over $24 million not including the 5 related housing affiliates which add another $6 million to the position’s scope of financial responsibility.

 The Controller will report directly to the Associate Director for Operations, but will have regular interaction and accountability to the Executive Director and the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors. The Controller will also provide support to the Associate Director in managing key administrative and human resources functions.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day accounting functions and staff;
  • Manage and prepare cash flow reports and financial analyses;
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and balance sheets on a regular basis;
  • Manage and prepare annual audits (including A-133 and day care/head start audits) and other supporting schedules, as well as federal, state and local tax returns;
  • Monitor treasury functions including endowment performance and investment policies;
  • Work with residential housing managers and managing agent on intercompany transactions and report on limited partnership issues;
  • Manage and track all tax returns and other corporate filings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 8-10 years experience in financial management, accounting and administrative operations including staff supervision;
  • Familiarity with nonprofit accounting standards and requirements;
  • Strong experience in cash flow management and financial analysis;
  • Computer competency and familiarity with accounting packages – knowledge of Solomon accounting systems desirable;
  • Hands on manager with impeccable integrity and a strong sense of ownership of departmental functions;
  • Comfort in being a part of a diverse team and flexible enough to work with all program areas of the agency;
  • Experience in government assisted housing/tax credit projects desirable;
  • CPA and/or advanced degree in business, public administration or a related field highly desirable.
