ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:  The Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) is a non-profit, multi-service organization focusing primarily on the needs of children and low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth, and aging New Yorkers. We operate at community centers located in the neighborhoods of East Harlem and Yorkville, and seek to deliver programs that are impactful, innovative, and intergenerational.

POSITION SUMMARY:  Isaacs Center is seeking an experienced Community Engagement Specialist to ensure that our Johnson Houses Cornerstone Program is a "hub" of positive and engaging activity - that it is utilized and well- regarded by the residents and the local community. The ideal candidate will be experienced in partnering with members and leadership of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Resident Association, key community stakeholders, local elected officials, Community Board 11, and the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), in support of East Harlem residents. The scope of work includes Education and Information, Access, Community Relations and Community Events.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of community engagement experience;
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred;
  • Experience and strength in developing productive partnerships with community leaders, as well as City and State government leadership;
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing an outreach and engagement strategy;
  • Commitment and enthusiasm for performance metrics, and continuous improvement;
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with exceptional attention to details;
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours.
Primary Duties:
  • Develop, implement, and provide oversight of outreach and engagement strategies to solicit and strengthen community engagement at Johnson Houses Cornerstone Program;
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the NYCHA Resident Association, Community Board 11, local elected officials, and other key community leaders in East Harlem to identify and develop programs and services that are responsive to and reflective of the needs and interests of residents, and community members;
  • Work closely and collaboratively with program and senior leadership of Isaacs Center to monitor program quality, and serve the organizational mission and aspirations for our core constituencies
  • children and families, opportunity youth and older adults;
  • Develop and sustain relationships with external stakeholders, including but not limited to City agencies, provider agencies, community based organizations, advocacy networks, and the faith- based community to further communications and community engagement efforts;
  • Liaise closely with Isaacs Center Development team to design communications tools, including messaging and outreach efforts to promote Isaacs Center and its services to the community;
  • Liaise regularly with local and citywide elected officials’ offices to set up site visits, community events, topical panels, and presentations, with the goal of increasing financial and political support of the site;
  • Perform other duties as needed.
