JOB PURPOSE:  The Director is responsible for leading the daily operations of a large, active and diverse senior center that operates within a vibrant community center. The Director designs, implements and manages services and programs to meet the need of a diverse senior population. The Director supervises Center staff – a Program Manager, Social Work Manager, case workers, instructors and volunteers. IN addition, the Director oversees the program budget, maintenance of client information, and generating reports to the funder.

 

SCOPE OF INFLUENCE

 

Manage, sustain and grow program scope. Partner within and outside the agency to build resources to assist the members of the Center.

 

·       Works across multiple programs within the Educational Alliance

·       Partners with internal and external customers and vendors

·       Maintains an effective level of organizational literacy about the divisions’ financial position, plans, and culture

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

·      Design, develop and implement recreational, cultural and social programs including programming suitable for adapted to the varied needs, abilities and interests of older adults.

·       Facilitate programming that promotes mental, intellectual, creative, spiritual and physical wellbeing.

·      Be accessible and friendly to current and potential members, and create a warm, nurturing environment for members and staff.

·      Continuously evaluate and improve program design. Perform continuing assessment of needs and interests of older adults with varied interests, physical capacities and cultural backgrounds.

·       Supervise a diverse, multi-lingual staff, including coaching, training and evaluation.

·       In collaboration with other Manny Cantor Center staff, organize and conduct special events and other marketing and outreach activities.

·       Oversee compliance with the standards and regulations of the New York City Department for the Aging, and assume budget and fiscal responsibility for assigned programs.

·       In collaboration with our Chef, oversee menu compliance with DFTA food standards.

·     In collaboration with our Director of Service and advocacy, select, orient, coach, supervise, and evaluate Weinberg Center volunteers.

·       Monitor enrollment and attendance, analyse program utilization and cost effectiveness.

·       Perform other related duties and responsibilities.

 

ADMINISTRATION

 

·       Participate in administrative staff meetings and attends trainings as required.

·       Perform other incidental and related duties as assigned.

·      Maintain awareness of current Department for the Aging, Department of Health, and other governing bodies’ rules and regulations, as well as agency’s internal policies and procedures.

·       Communicate at a high level, both written and verbally with a focus on excellent customer service and relationships.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

·       Social Work degree, and five years experience working with older adults in a community setting.

·       Excellent supervisory, organizational and communication skills.

·       Proven track record in designing and developing recreational, educational and social programs for older adults.

·       Experience working in a culturally diverse and multi-lingual community. 

·       Ability to work collaboratively and be able to manage multiple priorities and projects.

·       Demonstrated ability to handle stressful situations in a professional, warm and friendly manner

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

·    Ability to perform activities such as preparing learning programs,  analyzing data, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading,

·       Expressing or exchanging ideas through the spoken word, including activities in which s/he much convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly and/or quickly

·     Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with our without correction; ability to receive detailed information through oral communication to make discriminations in sound.

·      Ability to physically from one activity location to another; ability to perform activity that may range from standing, walking, reaching, sitting, crouching, and lifting items periodically – generally 20lbs or less

·       Ability to sit for extended periods of time.

·       Ability to perform repetitive motion activities such as typing.
