Job Description

With community residents leading the way, the mission of Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) is to build a strong, sustainable Cypress Hills/East New York, where youth and adults achieve educational and economic success, secure healthy and affordable housing, and develop leadership skills to transform their lives and community.  

 

Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation has an opening for one (1) part-time CAFA Coordinator/Afterschool Group Leader in the Youth and Family Services division.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

C.A.F.A. Coordinator:

                 Implement New York City Department of Education CAFA initiative at JHS 218.

                 Deliver CAFA curriculum to 7th graders.

                 Organize and lead college trips for 7th graders.

                 Design and deliver parent workshops on college access and high school choice.

                 Develop expertise in high school choice, high school readiness and in early college and career awareness.

                 Liaise and partner with school leaders at JHS 218 to design and deliver CAFA activities.

                 Conduct professional development on CAFA initiative to teachers and school staff at JHS 218.

                 Ensure compliance with contract deliverables. 

                 Represent agency to CAFA program managers at the DOE.  Attend initiative meetings and events.

Afterschool Group Leader:

                 Plan, implement and document successful educational, recreation, youth leadership, community service and arts activities with school-aged children.

                 Adhere to policies and procedures in a pro-active manner, making the safety and care of children your primary focus.

                 Build a positive relationship with each after-school participant in your care, and foster positive connections between participants. Actively engage with children at all times with the goal of fostering the positive development of each child and the group.

                 Conduct yourself as a professional and representative of the agency with school staff, parents, children and anyone else with whom you come into contact in your role.

                 Effectively manage assigned group. Maintain and enforce progressive discipline policy.

                 Create a cohesive and effective staff team.

                 Assist in enrollment, recording and submitting daily attendance records, and any other required documents to Director.

                 Inspect on a daily basis all facilities, equipment, and supplies;  be sure all are accounted for and put away at the end of each day; and provide Supervisors with a daily room check in log

                 Actively participate in all aspects of professional development, including scheduled supervision, weekly team meetings, pre-service training, and an additional 15 hours of training minimum during the school year.

                 Demonstrate commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change.

                 Perform other duties as assigned as necessary for the success of the program.

                 Other assignments, as requested.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

                 HS Diploma.  Actively engaged in pursuing higher education.  A.A. or B.A. in Education, Human Services, Youth Studies or related field preferred.

                 Demonstrated interest in youth development and educational equity.

                 English/Spanish or English/Bengali Fluency a plus.

                 Experience with middle school students in group settings.

                 Demonstrated skill in training, counseling, administrative tasks and family engagement.

                 Success candidates must be able to manage relationships with a diverse set of community stakeholders.

Salary Information

Compensation: $15 to $17 per hour. 25 to 29 hours per week. School year position.
