The Center @ Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, one of the City’s Innovative Senior Centers, provides an incredible array of expansive programming that attracts hundreds of seniors from diverse backgrounds and abilities (from the very active to the very frail) 365 days a year while providing a broad range of invaluable public health, case management, fitness and aquatics, health and wellness, arts and culture, education and socialization activities. We are now seeking an Assistant Director, Social Services to oversee the comprehensive case management and social services programming at the Center @ Lenox Hill Neighborhood House. This is a wonderful opportunity for an experienced social worker to join one of New York’s premier non-profit organizations and help older adults age in place in the community.

 

Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, widely recognized as one of New York’s premier human services providers, is a 123-year-old settlement house that provides an extensive array of effective and integrated services—social, educational, legal, health, housing, mental health, nutritional and fitness— which significantly improve the lives of thousands of people in need each year, ages 3 to 103, on the East Side of Manhattan. The Assistant Director, Social Services will be a key team member at the Center @ Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, joining other programmatic and administrative staff, and numerous volunteers who serve our members each day.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:   Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director, Social Services will:
  • Oversee and coordinate all Social Services programming at the Center, including case management services, educational workshops, and support groups;
  •  Supervise the Senior Center Social Worker, who provides hundreds of hours of direct case management assistance to older adults each year;
  •  Provide crisis intervention and support to seniors in distress, and support staff development around mental health and other relevant issues;
  • Plan and implement educational and group supportive counseling sessions;
  • Oversee reporting requirements for funders, including the Department for the Aging; and
  • Conduct client intake and maintain a small case load of older adults who need ongoing assistance, and maintain proper case records.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:

 

The successful candidate should possess superlative social work skills and have experience working with older adults and the many needs this population faces. The Assistant Director, Social Services must have supervisory and clinical experience; expertise in accessing appropriate resources in the community; an understanding of the health care system and how it affects older adults; knowledge of government benefits available to older adults; and experience working closely with government agencies as well as private funders. The ideal candidate for the role of Assistant Director, Social Services thrives in highly social community settings and is committed to working with older adults to improve their quality of life. The person should possess the interpersonal skills to work effectively with many diverse backgrounds. They will bring a combination of managerial, administrative and clinical skills to this position. S/he will be compassionate, energetic, organized and self-motivated, and also be creative and thoughtful in the coordination and creation of Social Services programming for older adults. The Assistant Director, Social Services must be willing and able to work a non-traditional, full time schedule that will include weekends. LMSW required.
