Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) is a not-for-profit community development organization serving 8,000 residents a year through a comprehensive array of housing preservation, economic development, community organizing and youth and family support services programs and projects. With community residents leading the way, the mission of Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation is to build a strong, sustainable Cypress Hills/East New York, where youth and adults achieve educational and economic success, secure healthy and affordable housing and develop leadership skills to transform their lives and community. 


Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation has an opening for one (1) full-time Program Director in the division of Youth and Family Services.


Principal Duties:

·        Design and implement holistic, engaging and quality after-school and summer camp programming, incorporating Arts, Sports and Fitness, Recreation, Community Service, Academic Assistance and Leadership Development.

·        In coordination with the Literacy Manager, participate in a Literacy Initiative that supports the development of higher order reading skills amongst program Participants. Work with Literacy Manager and program staff to holistically infuse literacy into program.

  • Hire, supervise and evaluate all program staff, including weekly supervisions/check-ins as well as monthly observations and yearly evaluations.

·        Plan and carry family events and parent meetings.

·        Assess and address the individual and collective needs of students and parents, and solicit and respond to their input into the program.

·        Collect and maintain all required records.

  • Adhere to policies and procedures in a pro-active manner, prioritizing the safety of participants.

·        Develop positive relationships with school staff, administration and parents.

·        Demonstrates commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change.

  • Identify, cultivate and engage partnerships with other organizations and agency programs to benefit students and families.

·        Perform other duties as assigned as necessary for the success of the program.


Position Requirements:
  • Masters preferred, Bachelors required, in Education, Social Work or related field.
  • Extensive experience working with Elementary school students and adolescents in a youth development setting.
  • Experience in supervision and management of contracts.


Work Environment:

This position works in a school setting during the workday. This role routinely uses standard equipment such as computers, walkie-talkies, cellphones, photocopiers, and standard equipment such as safety scissors and tape dispensers.


Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.



Occasional local travel is expected for this position.



Reports directly to the Assistant Y&FS Division Director for Elementary School Programs

Salary Information

• $45,000.00 - $48,000.00 annually. We offer a very competitive benefits package.
