BronxWorks is hiring an Administrative Assistant to work part time for the Food Pantry. The candidate will work Saturdays 8 am to 2pm during our pantry dates. Applicant must become knowledgeable in every component of the CMCC Food Pantry service. Provide assistance with all Food Pantry activities such as, lifting box, sorting food, assisting with inventory management, and crowd control. The applicant will greet clients and also provide notification of pantry service dates to clients and the public at large. This position may also create and distribute informational materials and fliers in targeted communities in the Bronx to promote services. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide general outreach and promotion for program (outdoor and indoor)
  • Provide office support including: clerical, filing, faxing, scanning, typing, photocopying and sorting mail
  • Answer telephones and offer other office support, when necessary
  • Report to, and meet with, supervisor on a weekly basis or as determined
  • Perform additional duties as assigned


Program Specific Responsibilities:

  • Support strategies for community outreach and recruitment
  • Become knowledgeable of every component and service offered by the CMCC Food Pantry
  • Provide assistance with all Food Pantry activities, such as, lifting boxes, sorting food, assisting with inventory management, and crowd control
  • Greet clients and schedule appointments for them to receive services
  • Create and distribute informational materials and fliers in targeted (and other) communities in the Bronx to promote services, events, and other special functions
  • Refer clients to an appropriate program for enrollment services
  • Perform data entry work
  • Perform other duties as necessary


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency in English required; proficiency in French is preferred
  • Proficiency in modern business communications including personal computers, laptops, cell phones, tablets, ipads, electronic mail, voicemail, facsimile and copier equipment


Skills/Abilities

  • Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Good writing skills
  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to climb five flights of stairs, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork
  • Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents
  • Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation
  • Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or field work

Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required. Authorization to work in the United States for any employer is mandatory.
