Neighborhood Networks for Family Child Care (NNFCC)

The search for safe, affordable, high-quality child care is a challenge for families of all income levels in New York City. NNFCC strives to make quality home-based child care accessible and affordable in neighborhoods throughout the City.

Family Child Care Providers

Family child care providers are individuals who care for up to six children of different ages in their homes. They meet City and State standards for safety, health, nutrition, and training.

Network Programs

Working with NNFCC, settlement house family child care networks:

  • Recruit and screen potential providers;
  • Conduct home visits at least once a month to ensure that providers maintain a safe and healthy environment, serve nutritious food, offer stimulating and educationally-focused activities, and provide age appropriate books and toys;
  • Arrange for providers and their children to participate in music, gym, and dance programs and other activities at settlement houses; and
  • Refer parents to providers that are best suited to meet their schedules, location and cultural preferences.

NNFCC

NNFCC, a project sponsored by UNH, works closely with nine settlement house networks to increase the supply and quality of family child care. NNFCC supports networks and providers by:

  • Training new and established providers in early childhood development and education, safety and health, nutrition and business management;
  • Conducting workshops for network staffs to strengthen their work with providers;
  • Raising and distributing funds to support the networks’ activities;
  • Advising networks on insurance issues, changes in State and City regulations, availability of public resources, and providers’ licensing and reimbursement concerns; and
  • Advocating for increased public sector funds and policy and regulatory reforms to improve the quality and viability of family child care.
