Experience Corps

Experience Corps is a national program that trains retired adults to work as tutors for students who are having academic difficulties. Individuals volunteering 15 hours or more per week are paid a small stipend.

The Experience Corps has been shown to improve both the children’s school performance and the quality of life of the volunteers. By joining in this program, UNH and its members are participating in a national effort to empower retired adults to make a meaningful contribution to the under-served schools in their communities.

UNH’s Experience Corps initiative is operating in conjunction with three member settlements, Grand Street Settlement with sites at P.S. 140 and 142, Mosholu Montefiore Community Center with a site at P.S. 95, and Sunnyside Community Services with a site at P.S. 150. As funding becomes available, UNH anticipates expanded participation by its members in the Experience Corps.

For more information, or to volunteer, please contact Experience Corps Coordinator Rashida Abdul-Azim at (212)967-0322 x316 or rabdulazim@unhny.org
