Parent Engagement
Through an initiative funded by the MetLife Foundation, UNH has provided grants to UNH member agencies for programs that
effectively engage parents in the lives of their children. UNH is working with the staff of these programs to identify best
practices that can be utilized by other UNH members and other organizations working with children and families.
The following UNH members are participating in the project:
- Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation - Cypress Hills Advocates for Education (CHAFE) helps
parents work collectively to improve public education in Cypress Hills.
- Kingsbridge Heights Community Center - the Parent Engagement in Literacy-Focused After School Program
connects youth and families to the resources they need to become fully engaged in their education.
- Sunnyside Community Services - the Parent Engagement in the Options (PEO) program raises awareness of school options and
helps with school transitions of elementary-school and middle-school students.
- United Community Centers - the Parent Engagement Literacy Program engages pre-school children and their parents
in shared reading activities, giving parents "reading-aloud" skills and children comprehension proficiency and a life-long love of reading.
