Strengthening Neighborhood Based Programs for the Elderly

The UNH Strengthening Neighborhood Based Services for the Elderly Initiative, funded by The Starr Foundation, provides grants to UNH member agencies to strengthen mental health services for the elderly. As part of the Initiative, member agencies are providing services to address issues such as depression and anxiety among older adults and are helping older adults overcome reluctance to accessing these services.

UNH works with these organizations on program design, implementation and assessment and convenes program staff to share experiences and information. UNH is also sharing lessons from the Initiative with practitioners and policy makers throughout New York City.

The current UNH members involved in the Initiative are:

  • Chinese-American Planning Council

  • Citizen's Advice Bureau

  • Educational Alliance

  • Grand Street Settlement

  • Hamilton-Madison House

  • Henry Street Settlement

  • Hudson Guild

  • Lenox Hill Neighborhood House

  • Stanley M. Issacs Neighborhood Center

  • Sunnyside Community Services

  • Union Settlement Association

  • University Settlement Society
